  • A letter to myself

    A letter to myself

    Dearest me,
I need not ask how you’ve been
    Cause I’ve always known you
    From your birth day
    To this very moment
You’ve grown so much, you know
    Pretty, wise, smart
    No longer a child
But a lady with an adventurous heart
    I watched you grow up
I lived all your moments with you
The days you laugh and play
Like there is nothing to worry about
And the days you’d cry to sleep
    Because nothing is going right
I’ve seen the silliest of things you do
The childish badge you wear proudly
And watch the morning birds coo
I’ve also seen your face light up
Like the shine of a million stars
At the sight of your favourite things
    I’ve seen your bitter smile
The ones you give when you’re hurting
I’ve witnessed your courage and determination
    Your creativity and spark
The spark that brings life to all you do
    I saw your mistakes too
The ones you still beat yourself up for
    I’ve watched your face drop
    At the news of disappointment
I’ve observed the way you love
    Giving it all you’ve got
    Likewise, the way you hate
You do that without holding back
All of your life’s memorable moments
    I’ve lived with you
    The highs, lows and middles
So I want to tell you this
You’ve come a long way from where you started
    It’s been very tough
    But you pushed through
Dearest me, I’m proud of you
You’re doing way better than I imagined
    Toughening up in hard times
    Letting go of your mistakes
Loving yourself just like you should
    I’m glad I’m you
Dearest me, you’ve been doing great
    But you ain’t done yet
You have a very interesting journey ahead
A fascinating story to be completed
So keep up with your betterment
    Never settle for less
    Be brave, don’t be afraid
    Growing up ain’t easy
    That I know
    But you’ve got this
    You can do it
    Always remember
    I’m proud of you
    I love you
    With love,
    Me.
  • Pain

    Pain

You fell down and scraped your knee
    Ouch that hurts
    But it isn’t painful
Or you’re cutting vegetables for dinner
    Then you cut your finger
    Oh no! you’re bleeding
    It hurts so much
    It’s still not pain
    Ever lost a loved one?
    Someone so valued and cherished
The realization that you’ll never see them again
    Your hearts skips a beat
But not the type that gives you butterflies
    Imagine this too
You and your partner just had a fight
    There was shouting and cursing
Then suddenly they say ‘it’s over’
For a split second, you freeze
Your hearts drops to your stomach
    ‘You’re joking right’, you said
They are silent, staring back at you
    You walk out on them
On to the streets, walking home
For some reason, the air is different
    Your hands are getting heavy
    Your visions blurry
You’re fighting to hold back your tears
Or you worked so hard for a project
    Sleepless nights and stressful days
    Giving it your all
‘This is going to be great’
And the day of submission comesBut you didn’t win the prize
    Your spirit dampens
    You feel empty and lost
Probably it goes like this for you
    Your best friends
Who will always have your back
    They betrayed you
Then it burns in your chest
    And stings in your head
    All those feelings
    The skip in your heartbeat
    The dropping of your heart
    Your blurring vision
    That dampening spirit
    The burn in your chest
    And the emptiness that follow
    The sorrow that brings tears
    And acrimony bearing bitterness
They all bring us back to one thing
    Pain
  • On a rainy day like this

On a rainy day like this

Dark clouds forming like my childhood nightmare
A dip in temperature, the wind is fiercer
Trees swaying back and forth without care
A little darkening in the atmosphere
All together they bring the news I wanna hear
The thunder roars and the lightning strikes
So do windows close and dogs bark
    Mum’s calling their children in
As the fierce wind blows fiercer still
Come in the rain is about to begin
    The first drops are heavenly
    Beating against the roofing sheets
And liberating heat as it touches down
On a rainy day like this
I sit by my window folded
    Watching the drops fall free
    Counting seconds for fun
On a rainy day like this
I calm my thoughts as the rain sings
A beautiful song written by mother nature
The melody works through my brain
    As I lose conciousness
    The rain poured for hours
But I didn’t see it all
On a rainy day like this
I wake up to grasses green
    And clouds white, crispy smell
I wonder when it’ll come again
    But till then
I’ll sit still by my window
And wait for the signs of the rain
